About this site
I established Faces of War in 2001 as a place to record news, notes and narratives as I collect historic photographs of Civil War volunteers and write about their military service. Today, it is home to information about my columns and books, my investigations into the lives of this generation of citizen soldiers, and the unique portrait images that they left behind.
The history of the Civil War is the stories of its soldiers. I hope you'll find that the stories of these soldiers, and their photographs, deepen your appreciation and understanding of our greatest national conflict.
Your feedback is most important. If you have comments, ideas, or questions, please visit my blog or send an email.
